Dramatic jump in investments

Afte131129_Investmentsr the 4.6% volume growth in the second quarter, the third quarter saw the growth rate of investments jump to 9.8%. This remarkable acceleration is primarily due to the breakthrough in business investments: companies increased their investments by 9.7% year-on-year, the highest pace in the last five years. On the other hand, public investments also accelerated further, to 31.5% y-o-y (from 27.9% in the second quarter).

The breakdown by sectors shows that manufacturing investment growth turned from the negative to a sharply positive 13.6% in the third quarter, and this fact was the key factor behind the acceleration of business investments. Manufacturing investments, in turn, were mainly driven by the automotive sector and the related manufacturing branches.

As a result of the sharp upturn in the third quarter, the cumulative investment growth in January-September amounted to 3.1%. In light of the new data, the rate of investment growth may even reach 5% in 2013 as a whole.
